Probation: A New Beginning Art Exhibition at the Kyoto Crime Congress

Through art, children on probation in Kenya share their experiences of the juvenile justice system, lessons learnt, COVID-19 and their hopes for the future.

This art virtual exhibition is jointly presented by Kenya’s Probation and After Care Service, UNODC and the European Union. We are delighted this exhibition is included as a virtual experience for the 14th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Kyoto, Japan.

Twenty artworks by child probationers aged 9 to 17 years are featured.

The children who took part helped improve understanding of what it means to be on probation and how probation officers support their rehabilitation and illuminate a path to a new future. They also provided input that will help improve probation practice. Their names are withheld for privacy reasons.

This was the first ever national art competition for child probationers in Kenya and was made possible with the financial support of the European Union through the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery in Kenya.
