Remarkable increase in drug seizure at Imam Khomeini International Airport using the body scanner donated by the Government of Japan

Tehran, 06 May 2021 – Based on the recent report of the Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP) of Islamic Republic of Iran, shared with UNODC Iran by the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ) of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iranian Border Police has been able to seize more than 38 kilograms of various type of drugs from individual traffickers at Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) air border, by means of the new body scanner procured by UNODC Iran. This amount of seizure has had a considerable 250 percent increase, since installation of this new device until end of the Iranian year 1399 (20 March 2021) in comparison with the device previously installed.
This noteworthy seizure at Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) was only possible through using the new high-technology body scanner device, which was generously donated by the Government of Japan.
Procurement of controlling equipment is among the major activities of UNODC Iran Sub-programme 1 “Border Management and Illicit Trafficking” which has been included in UNODC Iran Country Partnership Programme (CPP) based on the needs assessment and proposal received from national counterparts. This outstanding achievement is an indicator of successful cooperation between UNODC Iran and its national counterparts, also clearly highlights the positive and significant role of UNODC in the process of drug control and border management.
