UN celebrates its 71st anniversary.

 

This year 71st anniversary of the United Nations was held in Iran in a completely different environment on 23 October 2016 at the Science and Research Branch of the Islamic Azad University. Hundreds of students and academia attended this event. Among speakers in the discussion panel were the UN Resident Coordinator, UNODC Officer-in-Charge, UNOCHA Director, and UNIC Information Officer.

 

In his opening remarks, Mr. Gary Lewis, UN Resident Coordinator in Iran, emphasized on long and successful partnership between Iran and the UN and explained about the importance of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved until 2030.

 

Mr. Kaveh Moradi, UNODC Officer-in-Charge, referred to the history of the establishment of UNODC in Iran and further explained UNODC's mandate on drugs, Crime and terrorism. UNODC Iran also participated in a discussion panel and answered questions raised by students and professors with regards to drugs situation in the country and around the world.

Participating UN agencies also had an opportunity to exhibit their publications and promotional materials on the side line of the event. UNODC Iran's booth was also present during this event, exhibiting UNODC Iran documents and materials where students and professors could visit and access UNODC Iran's publications, documents, and posters.
