Specialized training workshop on "Investigative Techniques of Transnational Corruption Offences"

 

UNODC Vienna, The Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighboring countries, and UNODC Iran jointly with the senior experts and practitioners from Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan held a specialized training workshop on "Investigative Techniques of Transnational Corruption Offences" in Tehran on 3-4 March 2015.
During the two-day event, the keynote speakers presented methods that can be used by investigators and prosecutors in criminal proceedings in corruption related cases and offences. Special attention was given to the use of investigative techniques and financial investigations. Instruments of international co-operation in the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences and recovery of the proceeds of corruption were also presented at the meeting.
The technical discussions were focused on the international standards in fighting corruption with an emphasis on techniques of investigation and inspection documents; the role of law enforcement specialized agencies in fighting corruption; best practices that could be considered in national systems for investigation of corruption offences; joint investigation techniques in enhancing cooperation among regional states to better address Transnational Organized Crime and Corruption offences; practical techniques in transnational financial investigation related to corruption offences; and international financial investigations of corruption offences and asset recovery.
The participants acknowledged the regional need to improve regional states data collection and case management systems that could assist in advancing the international cooperation on asset recovery. The participants also agreed on establishment of a focal point network among regional states national authorities, with UNODC technical support, for exchange of information with regard to identifying, freezing, tracing of proceeds of crime and the recovery of assets, in line with UNCAC requirements.
