UNODC Iran Country Representative Met with The Head of ANP of The Islamic Republic of Iran

Tehran, 04 October 2022 – The continuous cooperation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran and the Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP) of the Islamic Republic of Iran had been substantiated in provision of technical assistance and procurement of various drug trafficking control requirements by UNODC.

Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Iran Country Representative, in the meeting with Brigadier General Majid Karimi, Head of Iranian ANP, expressed his appreciation to General Karimi for the meeting, acknowledged the efforts of the Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP) for the fight against drugs and expressed UNODC Iran readiness for expanding technical cooperation with the Iranian ANP, with specific focus on training and provision of equipment and devices in line with available funding, requirements of ANP and observation of dual standard issues. Mr. Fedulov further referred to a number of ongoing procurement and training activities as signs of ongoing support extended by UNODC.

The issues of drug production in Afghanistan and efforts of Iran in controlling the transit and trafficking of drugs were discussed by Mr. Fedulov and Mr. Karimi and UNODC Country Representative promised to share the pertinent information with UNODC Headquarters and members of the international community.

Brigadier General Majid Karimi also acknowledged the significant role which UNODC has played in the period of presence of Mr. Fedulov in Iran and stated that the Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police expect that in addition to provision of technical support and procurement of requirements, UNODC promotes the role of Iran and reflect its efforts in fight against drugs to the international community.

Brigadier Karimi further stated that considering the situation of Afghanistan, western countries need to be more supportive of Iranian drug control activities, but they ignore their role in the international community and Iran is alone in this fight.

At the end of the meeting, UNODC Country Representative handed over to Brigadier General Karimi two e-learning servers which had been procured through the generous funding of the Government of the Netherlands with the purpose of provision of trainings to the Anti-Narcotics Police officers of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
