UNODC Iran Country Representative met with the Head of ANP of the Islamic Republic of Iran

  

Tehran, 25 August 2021 – The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Iran continues cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Police (ANP) of the Islamic Republic of Iran by providing technical assistance and procurement of drug trafficking control requirements.

Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Iran Country Representative , in the meeting with Brigadier General Majid Karimi, the Head of Iranian ANP, , shared information on the progress of their activities and prospect of joint cooperation. In view of current challenge posed by drug trafficking from Afghanistan, he stated that UNODC Iran holds consultation meetings with Iranian counterparts.

Mr. Fedulov, rendering a thorough briefing on UNODC Iran cooperation with Anti-Narcotics Police, announced UNODC team readiness to support activities of the Iranian ANP at international level. Meetings with the members of the Mini Dublin Group (MDG) is among the activities proposed to increase the visibility of ANP invaluable achievements. Mr. Fedulov further stated that according to the World Drug Report 2021, Afghanistan is still producing most of the opium of the world. This indicates the importance of the role of Iran in drug trafficking control.

Brigadier General Karimi also provided a feedback on current progress in drug control activities in the Islamic Republic of Iran and cooperation with UNODC. One of the most important pillars of this meeting was exchanging views among UNODC and ANP about further partnership and overview of prospective cooperation, specifically on improving capacity of  and training for ANP Officers.
