UNODC takes part in an event to adopt technology in the fight against Human Trafficking

 

Brasilia, 11 October, 2018 -  The IBM Cloud Discovery took place in São Paulo, on 8 and 9 October.  The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the National Secretariat of Justice (SNJ / MJ), IBM, the event organizer, and the Brazilian Association for the Defense of Women, Children and Youth (Asbrad) participated in the event.

During the initiative, Bluehack, a 30-hour hackathon marathon, was held in which developers, designers and entrepreneurs were gathered to solve proposed challenges on various topics. One of the challenges was the creation of a digital tool to help with combat Trafficking in Persons. About 150 people participated in the professionals' team in this hackathon. 

UNODC

Since 1999, UNODC has implemented Prevention of Trafficking in Persons programs and since 2015 has implemented the Global Action to Prevent and Address Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants (GLO.ACT) which is a joint four-year (2015-2019) and is being implemented in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and aims to strengthen the criminal justice response in 13 selected target countries in Africa , Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. GLO.ACT works with selected countries, including Brazil, to develop and implement comprehensive national counter-trafficking and human smuggling responses, ensuring a dual approach to prevention and protection.
