||CeIS is a non-profit organization founded in 1960 by the priest Mario Picchi with the aim of solving marginalization issues and help youth with family hardships. Although at the beginning the organization was more oriented to issues like wars, famine, and poverty, the increase of drugs demand gained attention and the fight against drugs abuse became a central challenge for the NGO. A project was therefore developed, called "Progetto Uomo" (Project Humanity.
CeIS has an particular philosophy based more on idea exchanges, rather than a rigid structure, offering a friendly service system. The NGO provides different programmes focused on several target group, for example workers, teenagers, children, students, and professors. Strong point of CeIS is the use of media, under which are remembered the magazine "Delfino" (Dolphin), the study center and the library Agorá, the newsletter and the website.
The understanding of cultural differences suggested the research of collaboration with other organizations, instead of the reproduction of the NGO method abroad. The School of Training of CeIS played a central role in setting this process and in training operators from a number of countries.
