||The main focus of Mudra lies on the work with drug users in the city of Nürnberg, Germany. The work spectrum includes many different things and varies broadly, starting from streetwork to other forms of low-threshold contact, to prevention, counselling and care as well as assistance during substitution therapy reaching to therapeutic help, project work and aftercare.
Due to the close cooperation within the team it is possible to adapt very well to each individual life situation of the drug user.
Mudra understands itself as an integral part of the local and regional network of organisations helping drug users and therefore also cooperates strongly with the relevant organisations.
The lead principle of Mudra is “the acceptance or acceptance oriented paradigm” especially concerning outpatient work. Already in 1980/81 the founding fathers of Mudra believed in this concept.
Over the last few years the situation of drug addicts in Nürnberg has changed and the number of deaths stemming from drug use has risen dramatically. This is due to a number of factors, such as the large amounts of heroine available and the different qualities of it but also due to little knowledge about harm reduction measures, save use of injection tools and emergency actions. Mudra has made it own of its lead goals to counteract these developments and spread more knowledge within drug using circles with the help of streetworkers. As a future goal Mudra would like the federal government of Bavaria to allow the installation of injection rooms and the possibility to have doctor controlled heroine injections.
