Short description:
Promotion of women's human rights in Nigeria, focusing on family-based violence. In 1999, it prepared a model Domestic Violence Bill, in collaboration with UNIFEM, which it has introduced in all the 36 state parliaments in Nigeria for promulgation into law. It also provides legal support to victims of domestic violence,
as well as victims of the implementation of sharia criminal laws in Nigeria. Other issue the organisation is involved in are:
Impunity Project under which it documents summary and extra judicial executions, and demand that perpetrators are prosecuted;
Torture Prohibition rehabilitation project under which it campaigns for prohibition and punishment for perpetrators of torture, and rehabilitation to survivors;
Training and capacity building for better case management for prosecutors;
Advocacy for the reform of the criminal justice procedure in Nigeria, and
The Blue Ribbon: Network on men against domestic violence in Nigeria
