|| 1985, SOLWODI Solidarity with Women in Distress- was founded by Sr. Dr. Lea Ackermann in Mombasa/Kenya as an advisory centre to provide women in deistree with new perspectives for a better future and explore ways of earning money outside prostitution. In Germany, Sr. Lea founded SOLWODI e.V. in Boppard in 1988, as a counselling centre for migrant women in distress who have come to Germany through trafficking, marriage agencies, forced marriage, sex tourism, or enticed by false promises of work. Today there are 11 counselling centres in Germany, most with shelters.
SOLWODI offers psychosocial counselling, safe accommodation and support for migrant women in Germany who are victims of trafficking, forced prostitution, forced marriages or other forms of violence and exploitation. Women in need of help can contact one of 14 SOLWODI counselling centres and, where necessary, can be offered safe accommodation in one of our 7 women’s shelters spread across the country.
SOLWODI works together with authorities, legal advisers, doctors, translators, psychotherapists, schools, colleges and other organisations to ensure that clients receive the comprehensive help they need in a fast and unbureaucratic way.
Awareness-raising and advocacy. In cooperation with other European NGOS, the Criminal Police and local Public Prosecutors Office, SOLWODI has organised and held training sessions and helped develop best-practices covering the treatment of trafficking victims acting as witnesses in court proceedings.
