The primary objective of the organization is to help community to have an access to social services so as to alleviate poverty and improve the well being of the most marginalized segments of the society by the provision of trainings educating them marketable skills, promoting good governance, community health awareness and empowering women & youth through livelihood projects.
The formation of SOHURA was mainly in response to problems that existed in the community e.g. human trafficking breakthroughs, extreme poverty, environmental degradation, and low level of literacy, high school dropout, and limited awareness on spread of HIV/AIDS. Aforementioned problems have necessitated the need for immediate action and intervention accordingly which led to existence of SOHURA as part of response mechanisms to social problems.
Currently, SOHURA is an active association in Somaliland and has implemented a number of projects including inclusive education, health improvement through energy, environment protection and soil conservation, child protection in line with monitoring, investigation, documenting and referral perspectives, sensitizations on the Confession on the Rights of the Children, advocating for policy making issues related to the Gender based violence and disability overcoming and establishment of micro-enterprises for women and social rights empowerment.
