||Kituo Cha Sheria (Centre for Legal Empowerment) is human rights non-governmental, non-profit human rights organization and the oldest legal aid centre established in Kenya. It was founded in 1973 by young conscientious lawyers who recognized that inability to access justice was occasioned by poverty, marginalization and vulnerability, which undermined fundamental human rights.This organization is committed to helping the disadvantaged and poor people who could not afford the cost of legal services.
This organization also seeks to empower the poor and marginalized people to effectively access justice and realize human rights through advocacy, networking, lobbying, legal aid, legal education, representation and research.
This organization has several achievements in line with its 2009-2013 strategic plan. This includes:
1) Establishment of 5 community justice centres that enable the poor and marginalized people in those communities to champion for their rights;
2) Trained over 300 paralegals on basics of law and human rights;
3) Emerged as a top organization in public interest litigation all over the country;
4) Received the civil society of the year award winner 2010.
