Short description:
Flying Broom is a women’s organization, established in November 1996, working for the improvement of democracy and civil society through the facilitation of communications and encouragement of women’s participation in the media and government. Since its establishment Flying Broom encourages and initiates activities that bring local women’s organizations together with local governments to promote the development of common projects through appropriate allocation of local resources. Flying Broom makes women’s issues visible through contributing to reporting on local women’s news in the national media and the organization seeks to follow women’s agendas from all regions through a Local Women Reporters’ Network. Flying Broom has prepared a comprehensive database through conducting research into women’s organizations around Turkey. Moreover Flying Broom advocates for the rewriting of laws that victimize women also working on this goal together with other women’s organizations. Flying Broom carries out lobbying activities, inform women about new legislation and we carry out instructional activities. Flying Broom works to prevent early and forced marriages, and carrying out an awareness rising campaign since 2006.
