Short description:
SAMEDI is a Congolese nonprofit and non-governmental organization whose goal is to support the implementation of international law at state level with the regard to helping the country meet its obligations as member of the international community. As specific objectives, the entity assists the government, international organizations and civil society organizations with providing advisory legal services, conducting research and studies on legal matters. Also the drafting of domestic rule of law when relating to the process of ratification and/or the implementation of any international instrument, and finally training of executives and civil society actors.
The organization, whose members are highly qualified, understand the obstacles hindering the way for African Authorities to ratify and implement the instruments of international law which they negotiate and sign in regard to their free, prior and informed consent. The processes of ratification has often marked the point of discord between government and citizens in such a way that the ratification is reached by dint of expensive awareness campaigns.
Since its creation, SAMEDI has conducted very substantive awareness campaigns and workshops for students from the law schools, judges, lawyers, ngos, including indigenous peoples’ organizations working in their field.
Also focusing on the trafficking in persons and its related issues in the Republic of Congo, as the country still stands at TIER 2 Watch List in the world rankings.
