Short description:
GONG is a Croatian civil society organization founded in 1997 to encourage citizens to actively participate in political processes. GONG promotes human and civil rights and celebrates the culture of dialogue, transparency and responsibility in the public domain. Our work is based on the belief that the coordinated CSO effort – at national, regional and international level – can have a strong and sustainable impact on the improvement of people's lives. GONG has successfully advocated for the improvement of legal and institutional framework in Croatia (e.g. the Freedom of Information Act, the Act on Financing Political Parties and Election Campaigns, and the Act on the Prevention of the Conflict of Interest). GONG has also been a founding member of a number of civil society or inter-sectoral coalitions engaged in monitoring the processes of drafting laws related to greater transparency, anti-corruption and good governance. Such examples include the informal coalition Platform 112 (which gathered to monitor Croatian EU accession negotiation process in Chapter 23), or the informal coalition which prevented the adoption of the highly detrimental Strategic Investments Act in January 2013.
