Short description:
Mission:The India HIV/AIDS Alliance supports community action to prevent HIV infection, by meeting the challenges of AIDS, and by building healthier communities.
Main activities:
-Sensitization and advocacy among key government and civil society stakeholders
-Coordination between various agencies providing services to PWID
-Quality assurance for targeted interventions (Tis) and Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) centres under NACO
-Development of appropriate government responses to the PWID-HIV situation
-Implementation of harm reduction services for PWID
Main achievements
-Over 11,000 PWID covered with risk reduction services
-Supported nearly 50,000 family members of PWID with family-oriented services
-Conducted five sensitization workshops for media, law enforcement and legal representatives
-Made a documentary advocating for WWID in India (“Out of the Shadows: Women who Use Drugs in India)
-Developed three state-level drug user networks (Bihar, Haryana and Uttarakhand)
