Nigerian officials, personalities and UN representatives speak out on World Drug Day 2020

9 July 2020 - The United Nations commemorates special days as a way to focus minds and educate the public on issues and to mobilize political will and resources to address them, and to celebrate and reinforce global achievement.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as 'World Drug Day', is celebrated annually on 26 June. This year's theme, "Better Knowledge for Better Care," is aimed at improving the understanding the drug problem in all its dimension with a view to enhancing access to as well as quality of care.

In Nigeria, UNODC commemorated the day partnering with a host of utmost diverse stakeholders including the various UN agencies; the Government, in particular the Office of the Senior Special Advisor on the SDGs, NDLEA and NAFDAC; civil society, including multiple NGOs, Drop-in-Centers and members of the newly established DrugHelpNet; several Nollywood greats, such as Joke Silva and Stephanie Linus; as as well as the private sector, most notably the MTN Foundation.
