In Nigeria, the UNVTF has supported numerous organizations working to assist trafficking victims and prevent trafficking in persons. For example, from 2011 to 2014, the Fund supported the Freedom Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing support to trafficking victims and to raising awareness about the issue. In June 2021, the UNVTF supported the Pathfinders Justice Initiative, which provides legal assistance and psycho-social support to trafficking victims. In June 2022, the UNVTF supported the Institute for Democracy, which works to prevent trafficking in persons by educating communities and empowering women and girls.
The latest Nigerian organization to receive support from the UNVTF is the Women, Infants and Children Care Initiative in Nigeria (WICCI). The organization leads a project that supports and assists 115 human trafficking survivors, as well as facilitates their social reintegration, and prevents the risk of re-trafficking for survivors.
The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons plays a critical role in supporting organizations working to end the horrific crime of trafficking in persons. Through its support, the UNVTF is helping to make a difference in the lives of countless trafficking victims and is working to bring an end to this heinous crime.
