Regional Anti-Corruption Academy for Central America and the Caribbean (ARAC)

.. The Regional Anti-corruption Academy for Central America and the Caribbean in Panama (ARAC) was conceived through a joint initiative of the Executive Secretary of Panama's National Transparency Council against Corruption and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime , during the first meeting of the Implementation Review Mechanism of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption held from June 28, 2010 to July 2, 2010 in Vienna, Austria. The Academy was then officially inaugurated on 1 November 2012 in Panama City.

ARAC was created in accordance with the high standards and principles of the International Anti-corruption Academy (IACA) in Vienna to stand as a pillar of excellence in the fight against corruption. Through the provision of training and technical assistance, ARAC seeks to promote and develop the capacity of the public sector and other stakeholders in Central America and the Caribbean for the  prevention,  reduction and prosecution of corruption.

As a main objective, ARAC seeks to create a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to training, education, research, networking and the pursuit of partnership with citizens in the fight against corruption.

In an effort to provide broad access to relevant and recent advances in the fight against corruption, the Academy will be open to all those who are involved in the fight against corruption and related crimes. For example:

• Official national anti-corruption agencies involved in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of corruption

• Legislators and politicians working on the development of national plans and strategies to combat corruption

• Judicial institutions

• Regional integrity and anti-corruption networks

• Civil society and non-governmental organizations working on the improvement of transparency and social responsibility

• Private sector entities that develop anti-corruption programmes for advocacy and action
