The Strengthening Families Programme in Panama

Panama was the first country in Central America to adopt the Strengthening Families Programme. It was introduced in 2010 with the training of 40 professionals from different areas, such as psychology, education, sociology, journalism, social communication that would develop the programme in various communities with vulnerable populations of Mañanitas, San Miguelito, Paitilla, Panamá Viejo, Panamá Este and Arraiján in the Province of Panama; of David in the Province of Chiriquí and of Colón in the homonymous province.

In 2011, a "training of trainers" (ToT) workshop was carried out to allow for the certification of 9 facilitators as trainers, with the result of strengthening the capacity established in the country in order for continuing executing the programme.

The SFP 10-14 kept spreading in Panama, with at present 91 trained facilitators. Further evaluation processes of the experience were conducted with excellent results. These results were validated even further by the wide satisfaction expressed by the participating families, which gave testimony as to the improvement of familial relations as a result of having participated in the programme.
