The Strengthening Families Programme in the Dominican Republic

The implementation of the SFP 10-14 in the Dominican Republic is in its first phase, as in February 2014 the Drug National Council (CND according to its acronym in Spanish), with the support of UNODC-ROPAN, carried out the first training of the programme, addressed to 33 professionals from the areas of health, education and social science with working experience in communities or with families and children.

The participants of the training workshop were professionals from the Ministry of Education (MINERD), the Drug National Council (CND); the National Council for Childhood and Adolescence (CONANI), National Council of Population and Family (CONAPOFA); Vice President-Department of Family; Progresando con Solidaridad Church Network; Office of the First Lady; Centre of Integrated Assistance for Children and Adolescents consuming psychoactive substances; Institute of the Family (INEFA); Volver Foundation and National Church Network RENACI.

The Community-based Prevention Section of the Drug National Council, together with the Centre of Excellence of the Drug Demand Reduction Section of UNODC, will be in charge of implementing the programme in the communities of the country.

The second implementation phase, with the execution of the sessions of the SFP 10-14, has started in April 2014.
