UNODC presents Gesell Chamber User Manual

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean in Panama (UNODC ROPAN) launched the "Gesell Chamber User Manual" as a key tool for the training of the Public Ministry of Panama on this matter.

 The document was prepared by the Project PANT37 "Strengthening the Office for Protection of Victims, Witnesses, Experts and other collaborators of the Criminal Justice System " (SEPROVIT according to its acronym in Spanish), in accordance with the strategy to strengthen the abovementioned Office.  

 The implementation and use of the Gesell Chamber is carried out within the framework of providing the Public Ministry with specialized technical training, which began with the Training Programme on psychological Interviews of Victims using the Gesell Chamber. As a result of this training, started in Chiriquí, Panama from 23 to 27 March 2015, all the psychologist, of the Public Ministry, were schooled on the use of this advanced and effective equipment.

 UNODC ROPAN continues its work to support the services of attention to victims provided by the SEPROVIT and to the "Unit for Protection of Victims, Witnesses, Experts and other collaborators of the Criminal Justice System " (UPAVIT). The Project PANT37 is currently working to install five Chambers in the upcoming months in the UPAVIT units of Bocas del Toro, Panamá, La Chorrera, Los Santos and Herrera.Using these chambers within the Adversarial System will reduce the risk of re-victimization of the victims, in particular for children and teenagers. The main objective is to protect the victim, bearing in mind a complete respect for Human Rights and its participation in the system.
