Container Control Program (CCP) signs Memorandum of Understanding with Costa Rica

Vienna, January 19, 2021. The Global Container Control Programme of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Costa Rica.

One of the objectives of this agreement is to promote inter-institutional cooperation between UNODC and the Costa Rican State, in accordance with the functions and within the area of competence of the parties, to prevent the use of legitimate cargo containers for illicit activities, such as drug trafficking, smuggling of goods, violation of intellectual property rights, tax evasion, and other transnational crimes committed using the commercial supply chain.

The Global Container Control Program will operate through a Port Control Unit trained and equipped for the analysis and exchange of information and operational work to meet the program's objectives.
