Directors of Prisons and Heads of Departments of the General Office of the Prison System share good hygiene and sanitation practices

Under the UNODC Project PANZ59 "Consolidating prison reform improvements in Panama", with the support of the US Embassy in Panama, UNODC and the Prison Training Academy organized an internship (second part) to all prisons in Panama in order to assess progress in prison management and social reintegration programs, and share good hygiene and sanitation practices.
In the framework of the internship, prison facilities in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera and Coclé were visited, analyzing the capacity of the cells, the provision of hygienic services, access to drinking water and distribution of foods.
Directors of the prisons shared with their colleagues the measures adopted to deal with the consequences of overcrowding in terms of hygiene and health, and improve the quality of life of the people deprived of their liberty.
On the other hand, prison staff presented the reforms to Law 55 (2013) due to the approval of Law 42 (2016), and the Handbook on Dynamic Security and Prison Intelligence of UNODC.
All prison directors, heads of department of the DGSP, staff of the Prison Training Academy and UNODC officers participated in the internship.
