El Salvador, June 16, 2020. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN) presented the report "Impact of COVID-19 on the structures of organized crime in El Salvador: an initial approach".

This document analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both the structures and activities of criminal organizations in order to effectively counteract them in the future.

The objective of this report is to make an initial approach to the study of these elements in El Salvador, focusing on two types of criminal organizations: the maras and gangs and the organizations dedicated to drug trafficking, since they are the main threats the country faces in the area of organized crime.

This document is a valuable input for the articulation and implementation of future strategies and plans to counteract the identified threats.
