YouTubeInteractive Teaching Materials to prevent Violence against Women and Girls in Guatemala
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN) has carried out strategic coordination with the National Civil Police to respond to the objectives within the strategic working framework of institutional strengthening of the security and justice sector in the prevention of violence and crime against women and girl victims.
Since 2018, UNODC has implemented the Inter-agency Programme of Essential Services for Women and Girls Survivors of Violence with the financial support of AECID.
In order to promote initiatives that seek to end violence against women and increase women's equality, support initiatives to raise awareness that violence against women is unacceptable, prevent future situations of violence and encourage women to report, UNODC has developed a series of interactive teaching materials that will be used by the staff of the Crime Prevention Branch of the National Civil Police in their interventions in the community and school environment.
The training manual is a participatory tool for women and girls to identify mechanisms for reporting, protection, and risk factors, and to facilitate behavioral change in the face of acts of violence. The content of the material has been created to work on issues such as self-esteem and self-care, and also presents, in a playful way, the protective factors provided by the community and facilitates the identification of risk factors that women and girls may have in non-inclusive communities. Finally, it has a section that strengthens the perception of the community work carried out by police personnel and the routes of care for victims.
The Sub-Directorate for Crime Prevention, in coordination with UNODC, will be working to strengthen the delegates at the national level in the implementation of this material in the educational sphere through training and the study of community prevention models.
