More than 400 young people are certified in the Program Line Up, Live Up
Dominican Republic, 27 November 2019. A total of 493 young people were certified in the Line Up, Live Up Program, an initiative aimed at promoting sports and other related activities to prevent crime and promote resilience among at-risk youth in an effective manner.
The program has been carried out by the Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salome Ureña (ISFODOSU), the Eugenio María de Hostos Campus, with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Instituto Nacional de Educación Física (INEFI) and the Ministry of Education.
At the certificate ceremony, the young people took an oath of commitment: "I, as a student sports leader selected today, on behalf of my classmates, commit myself to fulfilling my role as a promoter of a healthy, drug-free, crime-free and violence-free life. "Line Up, Live Up!".
As part of its efforts to implement the Doha Declaration, UNODC has launched a global initiative to prevent youth crime based on the power of sport as a tool for peace.
In order to minimize risk factors and maximize protective factors in everything related to crime, violence and drug use, it is a fundamental objective to strengthen the life skills of young people.
By enriching knowledge about the consequences of crime and drug abuse and developing life skills, this initiative aims to positively influence the behaviours and attitudes of at-risk youth groups and thus prevent anti-social and risky behaviour.
