 Official opening ceremony of UNODC office in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, January 21, 2021. With the presence of the President of the Republic, Juan Orlando Hernández, the Secretary of Transparency, María Andrea Matamoros, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Ghada Waly and the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Honduras, Alice H. Shackelford, a high-level virtual meeting was held to formalize the opening of a UNODC office in the Central American country.

This strategic partnership aims to support the actions of the Government of Honduras to strengthen national capacities, prevent and combat corruption more effectively and efficiently, promote integrity, accountability, transparency and proper management of public affairs and public goods based on effective, accountable and transparent institutions.

The Honduran State and the institutions of the National Anti-Corruption System will have the technical support of experts in transparency, the fight against drug trafficking, the fight against money laundering and crime, in order to strengthen the fight against corruption and transnational crime.
