Regional Meeting "Governing Safer Cities: Strategies for a Globalized World - A framework to Urban-Policies Makers"

From 27 to 28 June 2016, was held in Panama City , the Regional Meeting named  "Governing  Safer Cities: Strategies for a Globalized World: A framework for guide Urban Policy-Makers and Practitioners, with the participation of representatives of the security areas and municipalities in the countries of Central America, Mexico and Colombia.

The event, which was inaugurated by Mr. Alexis Bethancourt, Minister of Public Security of Panama, and Mr. Jean-Luc Lemahieu, Director of Policy and Public Affairs of UNODC, and closed by Mr. Milton Henriquez, Minister of Government of Panama, aimed to facilitate cooperation and exchange of experiences and best practices among policy makers and professionals that face the challenge of implementing Sustainable Development Strategies in cities where crime is a major concern. Thematic Sessions of the workshop were conducted by  Mr. Mark Shaw, professor at the University of Cape Town, Mr. Juma Assiago, UN Habitat expert, and Ms. Margaret Shaw, consultant from International Center for the  Prevention of Crime.

The results of the workshop will contribute to finalize the Framework Document "Ruling Safe Cities" being developed by UNODC, as a contribution to the Habitat III Conference, to be held in October this year, in Quito.
