ROPAN participated in the Panama Book Fair
Panama, 19 August 2019. The Regional Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean participated in the XV edition of the Panama Book Fair, held in ATLAPA from 13 to 18 August.
At the United Nations system stand, ROPAN organized storytelling sessions of the fables "The Lion and the Coyote" and "The Online Zoo", which deal with human trafficking and the challenges of using the Internet, respectively.
The children who listened to the stories learned to be alert to the people they chat with, to sending their own images through social networks or to the excessive use of electronic devices.
Visitors to the booth also had the opportunity to receive information about Panama's Accusatory Penal System.
Another activity consisted of taking photographs with signs bearing messages about ethics, transparency and integrity. "Say No to Corruption", "Promote transparency", "You can: Say no to corruption" and "I demand accountability" are some of the phrases chosen by those who visited the stand.
From this United Nations space at the Book Fair whose motto was "Not to leave anyone behind", information was provided on the Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 16, "Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies", for which UNODC works through its programmes with Member States, was selected by th
e visitors as one of the most relevant.
