On 21 and 22 April 2016, under the UNODC Project PANZ59 "Consolidating prison reform improvements in Panama", with the support of the US Embassy in Panama, a training workshop on prison protocols was conducted for prison security chiefs and supervisors of the Republic of Panama.

The training was conducted by public officers from the General Office of Prisons, Prison Training Academy and UNODC-ROPAN Prisons Team. The protocols that were part of the training include: Protocol on the realization of visits by the authorities of the Ministry of Government and the  General Office of Prisons; Protocol on cases of death of people deprived of their liberty; Protocol on the entry to prisons of human rights organizations; Protocol on visits of lawyers to prisons; Protocol on intimate visits; Protocol on prohibited items to female prisons; the General Regulation on forms of participation of persons deprived of their liberty; and Protocol on body searches.

During two days of intense activities, prison security chiefs and supervisors analyzed the aforementioned protocols, including role playing activities, and made considerations on their practical implementation.
