Specialized Training for the Citizen Attention Office for the Strengthening of Attention to Victims of Violence against Women and the Computer System of the Department of Victim's Attention (DAV) of the National Civil Police

Guatemala City, May 13, 2019. The United Nations Office Against Drugs and Crime (UNODC), within the framework of the Project "Essential Services Package for women and girls suffering violence (PSE) and the Guidelines of Module 3 Judicial and Police Services" held the Specialized Training for the Citizen Attention Office for the Strengthening of Attention to Victims of Violence against Women and the Computer System of the Department of Victim's Attention (DAV) of the National Civil Police (PNC).

The United Nations Joint Global Programme on Essential Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence, a partnership by UN Women, UNFPA, WHO, UNDP and UNODC, aims to provide greater access to a coordinated set of essential and quality multi-sectoral services for all women and girls who have experienced gender based violence.

UNODC worked to strengthen the National Civil Police with the technical support and the implementation of two specialized training from May 13 to 15, 2019 and from May 20 to 22, 2019 to 30 agents of the Citizen Service Office, Tourist Security Division of the National Civil Police (DISETUR) and 30 agents of the Maritime Police of the National Civil Police (POLIMERC), who have been identified as key personnel for the care of women and girls who have experienced gender based violence.

These actions aim to achieve quality and warmth indicators in the care of women and girls victims of violence, as well as to overcome the existing gap in underreporting detected in the DAV System that uses the victim assistance office.

This specialized training received the collaboration of The Victim Services Unit staff and the Office of the Public Prosecutor of the Public Ministry.

The specialized training course was generously funded by the Project "Essential Services Package for Women and Girls Suffering Violence (PSE) and the Guidelines of Module 3 Judicial and Police Services" implemented by the UNODC.
