Strengthening Capacities to Investigate and Adjudicate Crimes Involving Digital Evidence in El Salvador
El Salvador, 18 January 2020. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN), through the Global Programme on Cybercrime delivered specialized equipment for digital forensic analysis to El Salvador National Civil Police.
The objective of this donation is to ensure that digital evidence is scientifically identified, acquired, and analyzed. In this manner, digital evidence analysis’ results would be considered according to the highest standards and best global practices when presented before court, in line with criteria such as law enforcement effectivity, objectivity, fairness, and respect for the rights of the involved parties (including victims and suspects).
Beneficiary units include the Cybercrime Unit, the Digital Forensic Laboratory, and the Criminal Analysis Unit. The selection of these units was based on the fact that each of them has the mandate of working with digital evidence in the context of their actions.
This donation has been made possible thanks to the funding from the Canadian government.
