The Government of Panama, UNODC and Alízz Group join forces in the fight against human trafficking in the region

May 24, 2016 - Since 2010, Alízz Group, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, has cooperated with the UNODC Office in Colombia in the organization of a series of prevention activities in the field of Trafficking in Persons (TIP). The expansion of Alizz Group towards Panama and Costa Rica, presents a unique opportunity to explore similar possibilities of cooperation in the region.

In this context, representatives from the Ministry of Public Security of Panama (MINSEG), Alízz Group and the UNODC Offices in Panama and Colombia, held a meeting, during which, they shared their experiences in the implementation of TIP prevention efforts, including those conducted as part of the Blue Heart Campaign against Human Trafficking.

The same day, following the meeting, the Alízz 2016 Princess Beauty Show took place at the Balboa Theater of Panama, with the presence of talented national and international designers. During the event, the team of UNODC sensitized the audience and participants about the risks and challenges posed by this crime.

UNODC strongly believes in the coordinated work between national, regional and international organizations, academia, media, and the private sector, as the key for Central America and the Caribbean to have strong and proactive institutions, capable of developing effective responses to fight TIP.
