The Ministry of Public Security, the Attorney General's Office and UNODC ROPAN Join Forces in the Fight Against Human Trafficking in Panama
Panama City, 1 July 2016. In the context of the Security Cooperation Project in Panama (SECOPA), funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN), a National Train-the-Trainers Workshop on Trafficking in Persons for Criminal Justice Practitioners was conducted from June 30 to July 1.
The objective of this event, organized in close coordination with the Attorney General's Office and the National Commission Against Trafficking in Persons of Panama, was to strengthen the mechanisms for the identification, investigation and adjudication of Trafficking in Persons cases in the country, through the implementation of the UNODC Manual to Combat Trafficking in Persons for Criminal Justice Practitioners.
The event's opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Alexis Bethancourt Yau, Minister of Public Security of Panama, Mr. Rafael Baloyes, Specialized Prosecutor against Organized Crime of the Attorney General's Office of Panama and Mr. Amado Philip de Andrés, UNODC ROPAN Regional Representative.
The workshop gathered 30 Panamanian officials from the following national institutions: Attorney General's Office, Ministry of Public Security, Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, National Migration Service and the National Police (Judicial Investigation Intelligence Departments).Participants of the workshop included 30 Panamanian officials from the following national institutions: Public Ministry, Security Ministry, Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, National Migration Service and the National Police (Judicial Investigation Department and National Police Intelligence).
