Third Meeting of Public Defenders of Victims

Panama, August 14, 2019. Within the framework of the Consolidation of Criminal Procedure Reform Project in Panama, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC-ROPAN) and the Higher Institute of the Judiciary Dr. Cesar Augusto Quintero Correa, held the Third Meeting of Public Defenders of Victims: "Strengthening the role of the defender in the defense of the victims."

This activity, which took place on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 August, was aimed at updating the legal status of the participants through the exchange of knowledge and practical experience as participants in the process, and strengthening the professional skills needed to promote and guarantee the effective exercise of the rights of victims of crime.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting are: Victim defense in the investigation phase; defense of victims in the intermediate phase; damage repair as a right of crime victims and good practices of public defenders of victims.

This meeting was attended by 200 people among international speakers, public defenders of victims, judges, magistrates and prosecutors.
