Training on "Criminal prosecution of crimes involving digital technologies: approach to virtual assets and other emerging trends" in Costa Rica and Panama
San José, May 24, 2022. Global Programme in Cybercrime of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime conducted a training on Criminal prosecution of crimes involving digital technologies: approach to virtual assets and other emerging trends, aimed at 20 judges, 16 prosecutors and 2 investigators from the Judiciary and Public Prosecutor's Offices of Costa Rica and Panama.
The objectives of this training activity were to describe the scope and impact of virtual assets in contemporary society and economy, with emphasis on their link to the commission of crime, and to present cases in which virtual assets have been used in the commission of crimes.
Among the topics covered were: emerging trends in cyberspace; financial scheme of cryptocurrency; introduction to virtual assets: investigating crime involving virtual assets.
This training was carried out with the support of the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, with the aim of developing more advanced skills in combating crimes involving virtual assets in Costa Rica, the Global Cybercrime Program provided a practical mentoring workshop focused on this technology, aimed at investigators and digital forensic analysts of the Judicial Investigation Agency. This practical workshop ensures that the different institutions responsible for combating cybercrime in Costa Rica increase their capabilities in the prosecution of crimes involving virtual assets.
The workshop took place on May 26 and 27 and was financed thanks to the support of the government of the United Kingdom.
