Training on Smuggling of Migrants
October 30-31 and November 1, 2017 San Salvador, El Salvador. UNODC in the framework of the Project "Preventing and Fighting against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons Project in El Salvador" trained 30 police officers ascribed to the Division of Border Security, designated in different posts located in Salvadoran border areas with Guatemala and Honduras.
The purpose of this training was to strength El Salvador national capacities to detect, investigate, process and resolve cases of smuggling of migrants. The workshop was attended by different international experts such as Ms. Eva Gutiérrez, Coordinator of INTERPOL Illegal Migrant Trafficking Unit, Ms. Nayelly Loya UNODC Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Project Coordinator in El Salvador, Ms. Natalia García Lizama Chile's Investigative Police Forensic- Legal Psychologist , also Ms. Gabriela Chamorro and Mr. Julián Millan, from of INTERPOL's Directorate of Vulnerable Communities. Additionally, several national experts provided presentations on Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in persons, among them Ms. Violeta Olivares, Chief of the Special Unit against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons, of the Attorney's General Office and Commissioner. Rosendo Vásquez, Criminal Intelligence Analyst, INTERPOL's Regional Office in San Salvador.
The training module was developed thanks to the financial resources generously provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador under the project "Preventing and Fighting against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons Project in El Salvador ", implemented by UNODC Programme Office in San Salvador.
