UNODC and the authorities of El Salvador sign the Project "Fight against Corruption in El Salvador: Support to the Prevention, Investigation and Prosecution of Corruption"
San Salvador, 2 March 2016 - During a ceremony held at the premises of the Supreme Court of Justice of El Salvador, UNODC and national authorities signed the Project "Fight against Corruption in El Salvador: Support to the Prevention, Investigation and Prosecution of Corruption". The event was attended by Mr. José Pineda, President of the Sumpreme Court of Justice; Mr. Douglas Meléndez, Attorney General; Mr. Mauricio Ramírez Landaverde, Minister of Justice and Public Security; Mr. Amado Philip de Andrés, UNODC Regional Representative for Central America and the Caribbean.
"We are very proud to contribute to this initiative aimed at fighting corruption by implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption" - explained the UNODC Regional Representative, Mr. Amado Philip de Andrés.
During his speech, Minister Mauricio Ramirez Landaverde emphasized that "with the signing of the project, the Ministry of Justice will have capacities not only to prevent, but to early detect and combat against this crime."
Meanwhile, Attorney-General Douglas Melendez underscored that "It is important to take into consideration that all the activities foreseen under this initiative will be closely monitored, thus ensuring their effective and efficient implementation, as well as the sustainability of this effort."
Finally, Chief Justice Pineda Navas welcomed this project and expressed: "…I am sure that all the actors involved in the implementation of this initiative will make our best efforts so that the project achieves all of its expected outcomes".
