UNODC and the government of El Salvador launch the Blue Heart Campaign against human trafficking

In the context of the fight against trafficking in persons undertaken in the country, the Government of the Republic of El Salvador and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean launched The Blue Heart Campaign on 11 October 2017.
The launching ceremony, chaired by Mr. Oscar Ortiz, Vice-President of El Salvador, and Amado Philip de Andrés, Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN), was also attended by the Ambassador of Canada, Ms. Maryse Guilbeault, the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy, Mr. Mark Johnson, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mr. Mauricio Ramirez Landaverde, The Deputy Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, the General Prosecutor, the Director General of the National Civil Police, and the Director of the Salvadoran Institute for the Development of Women -ISDEMU-. Additionally, the launching ceremony, that took place at El Salvador International Centre of Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO), gathered over 350 representatives from Government institutions, the diplomatic corps, the academia, civil society and the private sector.
Right after the formal ceremony, and thanks to the collaboration of the NGO Operación Bendición, guests had the opportunity to take pictures in the photo boot and experience the use of virtual reality glasses to observe scenes of trafficking in persons' victims in different countries of the world.
On 12 October, as part of the private sector commitment to this effort, the AGRISAL Group offered a toast to showcase the blue lights surrounding one of the most emblematic corporate buildings of the city of San Salvador: the Torre Futura (Future Tower) of the Word Trade Center.
Blue Heart is a global campaign launched by UNODC that keeps growing in Central America and the world, with the purpose of promoting a global message: HUMAN BEING IS NOT FOR SALE.
