UNODC conducts IV Workshop on Controlled Substances for Medical Purposes in the province of Bocas del Toro
Panama, June 21 st, 2019. With the aim of benefiting health professionals in the province of Bocas del Toro, the UNODC project on Access to Controlled Substances for medical purposes and the Faculty of Pharmacies of the University of Panama, carried out the Workshop on Rational Use of Controlled Medications for Pain Management in Oncology and Palliative Care.
The objective of this workshop is to evaluate the existing barriers to pain management, as well as to design strategies for action plans that allow the rational use of controlled medicines to be implemented.
The development of this training is part of the responses to the study regarding the situation of access to controlled substances for medical purposes in the Republic of Panama, carried out by UNODC in 2018, and which, among its main recommendations, included conducting trainings and updating for health professionals.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Institution from Bocas del Toro province participated in this event. This training concludes a process that has allowed professionals from the provinces of Panama, Coclé, Veraguas, Los Santos, Herrera, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro to benefit from updating knowledge regarding controlled medicines for pain management.
