UNODC Coordinates Actions to Increase El Salvador National Civil Police Capacities to Investigate Cybercrime
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in the context of the implementation of the project "Strengthening the capacities of the El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases", in coordination with the National Civil Police (PNC), facilitated the workshop on the PNC vision on cybercrime. The workshop took place on the PNC Subdirectorate of Investigation, on April 8 2016, in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The objective of the workshop was to learn about the experience of creating, organizing, developing and determining the crimes to be investigated by two cybercrime units: FBI and Colombia National Police Cybercrime Center. In this sense, presentations were provided by FBI Special Agent Alexis Brignoni and Colombia Cybercrime Center officers: Superintended William Vizcaino and Officer Harold Velázquez.
In this meeting participated the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement of the United States Embassy in El Salvador, the FBI, the Colombia National Police Cybercrime Center, PNC Central Division of Investigation, PNC Cybercrime Unit and the Scientific and Technical Police Division.
Ms. Nayelly Loya, Deputy Chief of UNODC Programme Office in El Salvador and Coordinator of the Project on Cybercrime in El Salvador, participated in this meeting. Ms. Loya thanked the American and Colombian delegations for supporting the current efforts in El Salvador, and reiterated UNODC commitment in supporting Salvadoran actions in investigating and preventing cybercrime.
