UNODC developed prevention activities against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in El Salvador

Sonsonate, El Salvador, 8th of June 2018. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) coordinated an effort with the Supreme Court through the Coordinating Department of Integral Attention to Victims and World Vision El Salvador, organized the theatrical forum:  "Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons" in which 580 students from 10 different schools attended.

The objective of the Forum-Theater was to arising awareness of young student audiences about the dangers faced by migrants when they decide to leave their country of origin. For this, the play "Los de Acá" was presented. The plot of the play exposed the conflicts and the risks that the migrant faces in the journey, such as becoming the victim of criminal groups with the purpose of exploiting people. After the presentation of the play, the national and international legal framework on smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons was developed.

The theatrical play was developed thanks to the generous financial resources provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador under the project " Preventing and Fighting against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons Project in El Salvador ", implemented by UNODC Programme Office for El Salvador.
