UNODC facilitates a workshop to raise awareness on corruption in the pharmaceutical sector

On 11 December 2017, the Regional Anti-Corruption Academy for Central America and the Caribbean (ARAC) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) facilitated a workshop to sensitize the staff of Novo Nordisk Panama on corruption in the pharmaceutical sector, in commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day.

During the activity, the corruption risks associated to each stage of the supply chain were analyzed, from the research and development phase of drugs, through production, registration, marketing and acquisitions, to the distribution of the final product. Moreover, mechanisms to prevent corruption at each level were explored.

Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to debate about the nature and causes of corruption, as well as possible strategies to combat it.

The course was facilitated by Ms. Cristina Ritter, Legal Expert of ARAC / UNODC, and it was attended by thirty-seven (37) participants of Novo Nordisk Panama.
