UNODC facilitates workshop on the Implementation Review Mechanism of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in its Second Cycle

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), as the guardian of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) is responsible for the Implementation Review Mechanism of the UNCAC, to which all States Parties must submit.

This year the second cycle of the Implementation Review Mechanism begins, which covers Chapters II and V of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

For this purpose, UNODC Regional Office for Central America and the Caribbean (ROPAN) has provided a five-day training for government focal points and experts in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be part of this process.

The workshop aimed to provide focal points and governmental experts of the States Parties, with the opportunity to become familiar with the Implementation Review Mechanism of the Convention, training them in their roles within the second cycle, including topics such as stages of the mechanism, self-evaluation and its content, relevant data, entering information into the system, the on-site visit, as well as the examination of the documentation of a State Party under review.

The workshop was held in Panama City from 29 August to 2 September 2016, it was delivered by Virginia Marqués de Abajo, Regional Anti-Corruption Advisory; Sophie Meingast, Officer Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice; Monica Mendoza, Chief of Office of El Salvador; Alvina Mangandi, Legal Expert and Cristina Ritter, Legal Expert.

It was attended by representatives from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Granada, Bolivia, Guatemala, Chile, Brazil, United States of America, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.
