UNODC inaugurates its Programme Office for El Salvador
San Salvador, 2 March 2016. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime inaugurated its new Programme Office for El Salvador (POSAL). The ceremony was attended by Mr. Amado Philip de Andrés, UNODC Regional Representative for Central America and the Caribbean, Mrs. Mónica Mendoza, Head of UNODC POSAL, and Mrs. Nayelly Loya, Deputy Head of UNODC POSAL.
Since 2008, UNODC has supported the strengthening of the capacities of Salvadorian institutions, through a number of national, regional and global initiatives in strategic areas such as cybercrime, anti-corruption, airport security, container control, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, asset forfeiture and tourism and security, among others.
The establishment of UNODC POSAL, which will implement the second largest project portfolio of UNODC in the Central American and Caribbean region under the guidance and supervision of the UNODC Regional Office for Central America and the Caribbean, will allow the organization to provide Salvadorian authorities tailor made assistance in a wider variety of substantive areas.
