UNODC Participates in the Seminar on Human Rights and Institutional Violence in Latin America

The Prison Reform Team Leader of UNODC ROPAN participates in the seminar on human rights and institutional violence in Latin America, organized by the Euro-Latin American Network for the Prevention of Torture and Institutional Violence (RELAPT), which took place in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The seminar was also attended by social organizations, public defenders, universities, law enforcement agencies and the Rapporteur for the Prevention of Torture of the United Nations and the Rapporteur for the rights of detainees of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

On the occasion of the III International Meeting of the RELAPT, which UNODC integrates as an observer member, the Prison Reform Team Leader presented the Nelson Mandela Rules and the contributions that this new international instrument provides for the prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment. 

Complying with the mandate to spread the Nelson Mandela Rules, the Prison Reform Team Leader also participated in a forum organized by the Ministry of Justice and Peace in Costa Rica, along with authorities of the Ministry of Justice, the Judiciary and Public Defense.
