UNODC Presents "The Faces of Cybercrime" Theatre Play for Children on Cybercrime Prevention
El Salvador, April 26 and 27, 2016. Thanks to UNODC sponsorship, several presentations of the theatre play for children "The Faces of Cybercrime" were performed in two cities: a) San Salvador- Two presentations at Colegio La Asunción School where 549 students and 21 teachers attended; b) Ciudad Delgado- Four Presentations at "Monseñor Esteban Alliet" School, where 998 students and 30 teachers attended the presentations.
The Faces of Cybercrime is a children puppet play developed by UNODC and Cuenterete Teatro -theatre company-. Besides the play, is delivered to the audience a Cybercrime Mini Guide which aims to teach graphically basic terminology on cybercrime. The goal of this activity is to sensitize children, parents and teachers on the threats that may be found on the internet and the mechanisms to prevent becoming a victim of cybercrime.
"The Faces of Cybercrime" is a play structured around reality-based situations in which children face threats that can be found on the day-to-day usage of internet and digital mobile devices. The play objective is to teach children how to prevent dangerous situations and how to act in case of becoming a victim of cybercrime. The play also emphasis the role of parents and law enforcement institutions on protecting children and adolescents rights online.
The presentations were developed thanks to the financial resources provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador under the project "Strengthening of the capacities of El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases", which is being implemented by UNODC.
