The goal of this activity is to sensitize students of different academic levels on the good use of the Internet and the mechanisms to prevent becoming a victim of cybercrime. "The Faces of Cybercrime" is a play structured around reality-based situations in which children face threats that can be found on the day-to-day usage of Internet and digital mobile devices. The play aims to sensitize the population, especially children, parents and teachers on how to prevent dangerous situations and on how to act in case of becoming a victim of cybercrime. Additionally, all children received a Guide on Internet Safety, which aims to teach graphically basic terminology on cybercrime prevention.
In the opening ceremony, Ms. Nayelly Loya, Coordinator of UNODC Project Strengthening of the capacities of El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases, delivered a presentation and explained about different threats that can be found on the Internet and the best way to address them. After the presentation, Mr. Carlos Rosa made a feedback on the subject and provided and interacted with the children in order to answer question and ensure a better understanding of the topic.
The presentation was developed thanks to the financial resources generously provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador under the project "Strengthening of the capacities of El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases", implemented in the framework of UNODC Global Programme on Cybercrime.
